00:00Hi, James Wiltshire from the Border Mail here. I'm halfway up an iconic landmark in North
00:07East Victoria. Can you guess where I am? Anyway, stay tuned to find out about what's going
00:12on and what I'm up to.
00:29Welcome to my little road trip project, where my plan is to travel the local area and come
00:35up with ideas for families and what they can do with a spare day, a weekend, just some
00:42time off in general. When heading off from the Albury-Wodonga area, I like to make my
00:47first stop Myrtleford. Here, there's plenty of parks and the Ovens River to have a play
00:52with the family, get out and stretch your legs. I like to grab a coffee from Coffee
00:57Chakra. It is one of my favourite places in the whole region. And for my second hot
01:02tip in Myrtleford, the bakery has what I believe is the best bee sting going. Unfortunately,
01:09the day I passed through, they said their almonds didn't come on that particular day,
01:14so they didn't have any. So I couldn't have one to show you, but fingers crossed when
01:17you guys go through, there'll be one for you waiting. Righto, so here we are. If the title
01:24of the video didn't give it away, this is it.
01:37So I'm just on the other side of the bridge from Yerobin Falls. Probably the easiest waterfall
01:44to check out on this trip. You can reach this waterfall without even really hitting the
01:49windy bits of the road. So if the drive up the road is what's worrying you, then yeah,
01:56just come to this bit, get lunch at Pawpunka and yeah, have a great day.
02:05So at that very first spot, you really get two waterfalls for the price of one. Less
02:10than a minute on from Yerobin Falls, you can come to the bottom of Ladybath Falls. And
02:18it's just a quick little walk, 250 metres I think the sign says.
02:39So one of the nicest cricket grounds you'll ever see, the oval, absolutely cracking spot.
02:45I'd love to come and photograph cricket here one day, but in the meantime, I might just
02:50be in for a hundred today. Let's see.
02:58One thing about Mount Buffalo is the exposure can be pretty real, so if you're bringing
03:03little kids up here, make sure you've got them on a pretty short leash. Know where they
03:08are and yeah, don't let them get away from you because there's some real drops.
03:20So one thing, if you're into photography, don't forget your camera. There's some absolute
03:25cracking views up here. So a few things about Mount Buffalo. Obviously, we get snow up here,
03:33so it can be a great day trip in the snow season. Dingo Dell, Cresta. Little kids, bring
03:39your own toboggan or a high one on the way up at any of the little ski high places. In
03:46summertime, maybe bring a towel, bring some bathers, but then bring some good walking
03:51shoes or runners or something. You might need it. It is a windy road up, so if your kids
03:58need some ginger tablets or something, maybe pack them, give them to them before you hit
04:04the mountain. Get them in nice and early. There's plenty of spots to pull up on the
04:09road on the way up and also, yeah, a few cyclists. It's a pretty renowned climb for the bike
04:16riders, so yeah, just be careful when you're going around corners.
04:22So here we are up on the veranda of the chalet with the million dollar question, will this
04:26place ever open again? So currently, there is work's being done on it. You can hear a
04:33cement mixer or something going on up there. So I think at this stage, they're just doing
04:39work to maintain it so it doesn't fall over, but let's hope, fingers crossed, in the future,
04:44we can get the doors open again.
04:51I'm just here at Grossman's Mill Picnic Area. It's a beautiful spot on Lake Kittani. You
04:58can camp here in the warmer months. You must book in on the website, on the National Parks
05:05website.
05:07So I'm halfway up, maybe a bit less, but look at that, up the hump. I'm at the Cathedral
05:14Saddle here at Mount Buffalo. It's a wonderful climb. Definitely bring some older kids.
05:22Well be prepared to carry your little ones, but so far, well worth it. We'll see you at the top.
05:41The walk up to the top of the hump can be difficult in spots and it's really not accessible
05:48for everybody. It's very rocky, a lot of steps, a few switchbacks, and towards the
05:54top, a little bit of boulder hopping, but it is really enjoyable. I did make a voice
06:01recording during this section, but to be honest with you, I'll spare you the sounds of a dying
06:06walrus. I think it's better if I just talk over the top of it, but I was a little bit
06:12puffed by the time I got to the top. The climb is worth it. The views are exceptional.
06:19They go for miles and miles. It was quite cloudy and overcast on the day that I did
06:25it, but it was still fun.
06:27I guess the walk took me over an hour. I'm not really quite sure. You do lose track of
06:32things when you're taking photos and making videos, so I'm sure if you went up and back
06:37and you were quite fit, you'd get it done pretty quickly, but if you're taking kids
06:42and you're taking your time and maybe stopping for a drink break or a bit of food and enjoying
06:46the view at the top, yeah, an hour or so.
06:50There is truly enough walks to keep you busy for days up on Mount Buffalo. This was just
06:56the particular walk I chose to do. You can take some exceptional photos up on Mount Buffalo.
07:02As you can see right now, the cathedral is in shadow and the background is all sunny,
07:08so not the greatest conditions for me today, but fingers crossed for you.
07:13Righto, so here we are at the end of our day adventure. I hope you enjoyed watching it.
07:17We're just here in the Horn car park. It's a great little drive to get up here. Got the
07:22look out and got the climb to the top, but I'm sadly out of tickets and out of time for
07:27that one today. I hope you enjoyed watching it and I'll hopefully see you in the next one.
