00:00Gentlemen, you both know the rules.
00:02Punches from here on up are good.
00:04Punches from here on up are good.
00:06Touch goes now. Come on, fighting at the bell.
00:09All right, Vito Melnicki says,
00:11I do not like it when they call me a ticket seller.
00:14I'm more than that.
00:16But, Tim, that's part of being a star.
00:18That's part of getting yourselves on cards early on in your career.
00:21Yeah, but that's the way he perceives it.
00:23I mean, you hear a ticket seller, it's like,
00:25oh, he's only here because he can sell tickets,
00:27but he can't really fight.
00:29That's his perception of a ticket seller.
00:32However, yes, that is why we're here.
00:34That's why we have a business in boxing.
00:38It's because if you can sell,
00:40the promoter is definitely going to like you.
00:42But if you can fight, they'll love you even more.
00:45And look, the reality is we talked about how we were looking
00:48at the junior welterweights in this fight.
00:50How about now looking at the 154-pounders?
00:54And Vito Melnicki and later on tonight,
00:56we're going to see Xander Zayas
00:58and that is a fight that eventually will happen,
01:02but they have to work their way towards belts
01:05to make it worthwhile.
01:07Melnicki right now is kind of like on his own path right now.
01:11He's on his own course.
01:13He's taking his time.
01:15He's trusting the process.
01:17Xander and his team has reached out to Melnicki and his team.
01:21Obviously, they believe that their guy's not ready yet,
01:24meaning Melnicki.
01:26Two years from now, I think it'll be a huge fight.
01:30And the middleweight, you know what?
01:32I think I might be a super middleweight by then.
01:35Melnicki or you.
01:37You're a heavyweight.
01:38No, no, I'm just saying they're junior middleweights now,
01:41but they'll be middleweights.
01:43Yeah.
01:44Yeah, 160.
01:45I mean, and look, the state of the middleweight division today
01:48offers great opportunities for both Xander and Melnicki,
01:51but they both want to be multi-division champions,
01:54and that's, I think, the intent of staying at 54.
01:57I understand, but they're young, man.
01:59Yeah, yeah, yeah.
02:00Melnicki's 22.
02:01Yeah, 21.
02:03He just turned 22.
02:04Just now?
02:05Xander.
02:06Xander, 22 years old.
02:07Both young, still growing.
02:09Look how big.
02:11And look at the physique of Melnicki.
02:14Look at his legs also.
02:16He's definitely going to grow.
02:18Maybe a couple of weight classes in the next few years.
02:22Talked to us about the importance of his grandfather,
02:26who would take him to the gym every day.
02:29Said there was days I didn't want to go,
02:31and my grandfather, Willem Melnicki,
02:33who passed away on March 7th, made sure I was going to be at the gym.
02:37It was my first call every day, my last call, my shoulder to lean on.
02:42And he says it was tough when he passed away,
02:46but he continues to apply his craft
02:49because he's got to do it for himself, for his family.
02:54El-Haraz is trying to close the distance.
02:56Melnicki doing a good job right there.
02:58Sneaking two shots upstairs,
03:00but then reaching for that left hook to the liver around that guard.
03:05Beautiful setup right there.
03:07That's one way to get downstairs.
03:09You make them bring those elbows in, and then you come right around that guard.
03:14He's fighting a guy that's never been stopped before in his career.
03:16Absolutely, and that's how you've got to break him down.
03:18You've got to go downstairs and continue to dig to the body.
03:34Alright, there is Sandy Ryan, the WBO welterweight world champion,
03:39coming into enemy territory.
03:41This is only her second fight in the United States,
03:43and she's a little leery right now as she steps in.
03:46There was an incident outside of her hotel,
03:49and we're going to get Mark Creagle on that to figure out exactly what happened.
03:55She's here to defend her belt, Tim,
03:57and she's as tough as they come,
03:59and she's been through so much back home.
04:02You're absolutely right.
04:04I hope she's okay.
04:05I hope she's focused.
04:07I hope she can turn it on and turn it off.
04:09I understand what happened outside the hotel,
04:11but she's got business to take care of tonight,
04:14and it depended on her future.
04:16So, it's a must-win tonight for Sandy Ryan,
04:20and I believe she actually has the goods, man,
04:23to pull off this victory.
04:25I mean, absolutely, she has the talent.
04:27She's the current world champion for a reason.
04:29She's coming off of a win against Terry Harper by stoppage in four rounds.
04:34She's taking a moment to pray right before she starts to get ready
04:39for her third world title defense here inside the theater at MSG,
04:45and this is round two of a scheduled ten-round fight
04:48between Vito Melnicki and Khalil El-Haraz.
04:54Melnicki looks like a good athlete, you know, very coordinated,
05:00placing his shots extremely well, knows where he wants to go.
05:05He has a plan, and that's the box, box, box.
05:10Going up and down with his attack.
05:17Nice counter right there from El-Haraz.
05:19Yeah, El-Haraz, he's going to be, again, he's looking for a mistake.
05:22That's all he's doing.
05:23He's going to buy his time.
05:24He's going to play defense, defense, defense.
05:27That's the reason why he hasn't been stopped.
05:28He's very patient.
05:30He's okay with taking shots on the gloves, and maybe he sneaked one through.
05:34However, eventually he's going to get to you.
05:36He's going to keep bobbing forward, putting that pressure on you,
05:39and you have to stay concentrated all the way through because if you fall asleep,
05:43El-Haraz can land something like that.
05:46Yeah, that's a nice quick combination of uppercuts from Vito Melnicki.
05:49He can be flashy at times.
05:50They call him white magic, and he says, look, people think I've been spoon-fed.
05:54What they don't know is that I was in Newark down there working hard
06:00in all the roughest gyms, and I had to earn my respect.
06:03Came up with Shakur Stevenson.
06:06He was trained by Wally Moses for a while as a young man,
06:11so it hasn't been an easy path for Melnicki.
06:13He says, every day I've got to prove myself.
06:20Hear the fans.
06:22Vito.
06:23Nice body shot.
06:24Restless.
06:32Nice body shot followed by the left hook from El-Haraz.
06:35He picks his spot.
06:37He does.
06:38Again, he saw Melnicki trying to disengage, dropped his hands a little bit,
06:44and he was able to sneak shots around the guard.
06:49All he needs is just an opportunity to land his shots.
06:52El-Haraz, again, a lot of experience.
06:54Been in there with a lot of undefeated guys.
06:56Beautiful uppercut right there from Melnicki getting his head off the line
06:58and set that up too.
07:05And also a nice momentum flinch right there to stop the momentum of El-Haraz.
07:12Good body work again from Vito Melnicki taking his time, showing poise.
07:20Nice level change right there.
07:21You just seeing what El-Haraz know.
07:24What the shot he's looking for is the uppercut.
07:27There's a nice counter.
07:30El-Haraz dangerous.
07:31Very dangerous, yep.
07:33Inching closer and closer.
07:34All right, let's listen in to Ronnie Shields who's working the corner of Vito Melnicki.
07:39All right, good round, good round.
07:42How we feel?
07:45Listen, you're the biggest, strongest guy, okay?
07:51Let's control the middle of the ring, okay?
07:54You can do everything you're doing, but you've got to do it in the middle of the ring, okay?
07:58Now, keep shooting uppercuts on both sides here, okay?
08:01Left side, just bring the head over and shoot it under.
08:04Bring the head over this way and shoot it under, okay?
08:08And then when you see that body, go to that body for me, okay?
08:12Sometimes double that body shot up and then bring the uppercut behind it.
08:16All the things we worked on in the gym, okay?
08:19Just keep thinking about what you're doing.
08:21Everything is good.
08:22Keep controlling with the jab, but look, faint sometimes.
08:25Faint and then get that uppercut under there.
08:29What do you think of the instructions from Ronnie Shields?
08:32I told you he was looking for the uppercut, Ronnie Shields.
08:34He went on ahead and alluded to it and told him, hey, the uppercut is open.
08:43Round 3, fight scheduled for 10 rounds in the junior middleweight division.
08:47Vito Malnicki, 19-1 with 12 knockouts in the shiny trunks.
08:52The Ed Hardy collaborative trunks and then Khalil El-Haraz from Rome, Italy
08:58in the classical black and gold trim.
09:02See, I understand what Coach was saying.
09:07However, El-Haraz is putting a lot of pressure on Malnicki.
09:12It's really hard to keep your back off the ropes.
09:17I mean, he's using his jab, he's boxing well, he's sliding left and right.
09:23However, that pressure coming from El-Haraz
09:28really making it difficult for Malnicki to control the center of the ring.
09:34There's different ways of pressuring, Tim, and this is the very effective way of El-Haraz.
09:40Nice left, though, from Vito Malnicki as he doubles up.
09:47Right to the body also from Malnicki. That one strayed low.
09:52Charlie Fitch right on top of it.
09:56You see how the shorter fighter knows how to lean forward, get those elbows tucked in
10:01and stay away from them body shots.
10:05And what a taller fighter got to understand is when you're going downstairs,
10:11a shorter fighter, you got to drop your knees because you're making yourself vulnerable.
10:17You know, you've got shots over the top. If someone's going downstairs, you come up top.
10:23If someone's going upstairs, you have the opportunity to go downstairs.
10:30So Malnicki, he better be cautious because El-Haraz is looking for that looping right hand.
10:36He's trying to set it up. If Malnicki throws a number cut from the wrong position,
10:41he can get caught with that looping right hand from El-Haraz.
10:44So again, doing things at the right distance is extremely important for Malnicki.
10:49You just can't keep going to the well with the same shot and become predictable,
10:53especially against a fighter with the experience of El-Haraz.
10:57Malnicki now is in the center of the ring, giving a little bit more offense.
11:05You know who he took the distance to?
11:07Who?
11:08Vincenzo Gualtieri who fought.
11:09Oh, Gualtieri, yes.
11:11Who ended up fighting Zsanebek.
11:14Huh.
11:15He also went the distance with former champion Jack Colquet.
11:18That was in March of 2022.
11:22Strong will, good chin, and again, good defense.
11:28Has a few tactics, does it very well.
11:32He's getting hit to the body, El-Haraz is, and he's also dishing his body shots as well.
11:40Listen, stop backing him up now.
11:42But I need combinations going now, not just one punch.
11:45Okay?
11:46You can double the jab, double the jab right hand, bring an uppercut on either side,
11:50it don't make a difference, and then go to the body.
11:53Okay?
11:55Let's back this guy up now, okay?
11:57Let's go.
11:58You can double the jab, double the jab right hand, bring an uppercut on either side,
12:02it don't make a difference, and then go to the body.
12:05Okay?
12:07Let's back this guy up now, okay?
12:09Let's get him out of here.
12:11Keep your hands high, head side to side when you float.
12:14I don't want him moving his head.
12:17All right?
12:18You're hurting him with body shots, okay?
12:23Next time you go to the body, they shoot the uppercut behind the body shot.
12:27Okay?
12:28He's not looking for that shot.
12:29Okay?
12:30Don't know what he's looking for.
12:32All right?
12:33But back him up.
12:35Well, Nick, he told us in the fighter meetings, I watch legendary fighters,
12:39and I take something from each of them, like Roberto Duran.
12:42Once he puts that leather on you, you know, he cuts the distance,
12:46goes to the body with that vicious left, and then to the head.
12:49He's an all-around great fighter.
12:50Andre Ward, his ring IQ, just being able to get in and out.
12:54And he said, look, Caleb Plant, I love his eyes and his defense.
12:58A lot of different styles.
12:59Yeah.
13:00Take a little bit from everybody.
13:01That's what you do.
13:02That's how you grow on your style.
13:06That left hook from El-Haraz.
13:08See, the reason why Ronnie is telling Nicky to control and to back him up
13:14is because he understands the psychology of these veteran type of fighters.
13:18Once they start to gain confidence and you allow them to do what they want to do,
13:23then they become harder to stop later on.
13:27So he wants him to get control of El-Haraz right now,
13:31so that way he won't be a sore thumb later.
13:35Don't want him to gain that confidence.
13:38And I would advise Mel Nicky to listen to his corner.
13:45Put some pressure on El-Haraz.
13:47Make him think twice about coming inside.
13:53Right now, El-Haraz is in a comfortable spot, making Mel Nicky do all the work.
13:59And he's just comfortable to pick off any opportunity to counter Mel Nicky.
14:05Good jab.
14:13That body work once again from Mel Nicky.
14:15But El-Haraz had his elbows in a good position to block.
14:24And if you're El-Haraz, this is what you want, Tim.
14:28The room is quiet.
14:30You took his home crowd out of the fight so far.
14:33Yeah.
14:35You get to counter shots like that.
14:37Again, he's looking for the right hand.
14:39He's looking to either place the left hook or the right hand.
14:41Nice uppercut on the inside right there from El-Haraz.
14:44You know, yes, you want him to bang down to the body.
14:47However, when you get inside, okay, he walks him back to the corner.
14:50That's smart.
14:51When you get inside, you got to be careful because a short-armed fighter is going to have an advantage.
14:55El-Haraz can have an advantage on the inside.
14:57He let his hands go.
15:00He has shorter arms and more compact punches.
15:05Guido continues to put in more work downstairs, trying to set up the shots to the head.
15:12Oh, he was setting up that right uppercut that El-Haraz bid on.
15:16El-Haraz bid on.
15:23It's a chess match in there.
15:24Yeah, I like it.
15:25I like it. It is.
15:27And these are great rounds for a fighter like Melnicki.
15:29It's a different look.
15:30I think rounds are great in general for any fighter.
15:35Going rounds is extremely important.
15:38I told you what the limit is.
15:40Give me 100 good rounds and I think you're ready for the championship.
15:43Of course, you got to have the talent to go along and the mentality.
15:46However, 100 rounds is what's needed.
15:48Alright, Melnicki came in with 89.
15:50You add the 4, that's 93 rounds.
15:52He's getting closer to your threshold.
15:54And the body shots from Guido Melnicki have been probably his calling card against Galil El-Haraz.
16:01Yeah, he's trying to take some steam away from El-Haraz.
16:04Oh, that was a nice shot.
16:05El-Haraz, I don't even know how he took that.
16:07That was right placed on the liver.
16:10But he's doing a little bit of everything again.
16:12A nice little stab jab downstairs.
16:14Stop your opponent's momentum from coming forward.
16:16When he's leaning forward, he has that high guard.
16:18You're going to just reach around it.
16:20Landed a nice little solar plex shot there on the inside.
16:24But great variations.
16:25Switching up ways of getting down to that body to siphon the gas tank of El-Haraz.
16:31He's hoping that it pays good dividends down the stretch of the fight.
16:43Nice.
16:58If I'm in El-Haraz' corner, what I'm telling him is just saying,
17:01let your hands go a little bit more.
17:03Once you're able to close the distance on Melnicki, let them go.
17:07And adjust.
17:08You don't have to swing to the head.
17:10Go down to the body.
17:11Go low and come up high.
17:19Just need more offense from him.
17:21She's coming close.
17:23Melnicki right there did a good job.
17:27And using the clinch to get off the ropes.
17:29Moving this man back in the center of the ring.
17:31That's a great tactic against pressure.
17:35Nice right hand.
17:37On the ear.
17:41Stop.
17:51Nice body work from Guido once again.
17:53Yeah, on the inside.
17:54I like the physicality.
17:58Most fighters, when they get in close, what they do is they get relaxed.
18:02They're like, oh, you can take my hands.
18:04So there's plenty of opportunities.
18:06Good shots right there from El-Haraz.
18:08There's good opportunities for you to be able to manipulate your opponent's offense.
18:13Or go through his defense.
18:15And land shots like Melnicki's landed.
18:17Short, tight shots on the inside.
18:20As he's trying to rest and recover.
18:25Those are veteran tactics right there.
18:29Nice body shot again.
18:31You always want to try to unnerve your opposition.
18:33That is a nice body shot.
18:34Because he went right and then left.
18:39Break.
18:40If you hold me, I'm going to hit you with the opposite hand.
18:43Whatever hand is free, I'm letting it go.
18:53Melnicki's doing a great job with those long arms.
18:56Shortening up his punches on the inside.
18:59Stop.
19:02I don't know if those body shots are starting to add up.
19:04El-Haraz is slowing down.
19:06That's one way of looking at it.
19:08Because that's the reason he is slowing down.
19:11You hear that belt line?
19:13Yeah.
19:14Yeah, right on the cup.
19:15El-Haraz.
19:16Stop.
19:19Landing right on the belt line of Melnicki.
19:22Wow.
19:34A lot of wrestling going on.
19:36A lot of wrestling for positioning.
19:41Stop.
19:47Time.
19:49You want to see this building light up?
19:53Well, how about Edgar Berlanga shows up.
19:56Berlanga.
19:57After his loss to Saul Canelo Alvarez as WBA's number one super middleweight contender.
20:02He always had a lot of bling.
20:03But after that Canelo money.
20:04He looking rich, don't he?
20:05That Canelo money.
20:06Absolutely.
20:08And there's Shih-Ling Zhang coming up.
20:11I lost to Joseph Parker a few fights ago.
20:14And then that huge victory over Deontay Wilder.
20:18Yes, he's on camera.
20:20He's on TV.
20:21Big bang.
20:22Big bang.
20:24He say, Chinese power.
20:26Yeah, he did say that.
20:28And he won the WBO title.
20:30Yes.
20:31The stars are in the house.
20:41The top of the day.
20:44Ronnie Shields.
20:45A tough one today.
20:46Yeah.
20:47That's an interesting comment.
20:48Because that is what he's facing in Khalil El-Haraz.
20:51A tough opponent.
20:52Yes.
20:53Absolutely.
20:54In that last round.
20:55You saw that wrestling.
20:56You saw Villanello.
20:59You saw him trying to use his physical advantages.
21:04Trying to lean on El-Haraz.
21:08No, I said Villanello.
21:09My bad.
21:10That's the heavyweight, brother.
21:11Yeah, I know.
21:12I'm tripping.
21:13The Italian is El-Haraz.
21:14Yeah.
21:15I'm tripping.
21:16That's all good.
21:17Well.
21:18Excuse me.
21:19It's all good.
21:20Things happen.
21:21Good jab.
21:32Six rounds in.
21:33Now it's El-Haraz stepping forward on Vito Melnick.
21:37Yeah, but he's not.
21:38He's just pressing.
21:39I mean, he's not throwing any punches.
21:42I said he was stepping forward.
21:44I didn't say he was throwing punches.
21:46He's stepping forward, Jim.
21:48Now he's trying to work on the inside.
21:50Melnick, he's doing a good job of just crowding and tying up his hands on the inside.
21:55Not allowing him to work.
21:57I was just describing what was happening in the ring.
22:03Man, and the pace has slowed since that hot start from Rohan Polanco early in the night.
22:09Yeah.
22:12Think Polanco.
22:13Gotta be careful.
22:14That looping shot right there.
22:15And it's grazing almost behind the head of Melnick.
22:22Those type of shots, man.
22:24On the ear.
22:25Behind the head.
22:29Take equilibrium.
22:30Exactly.
22:31That's my point exactly.
22:35Good warning there from Charlie.
22:37Good warning there from Charlie Fitch.
22:38He says, you speak Italian?
22:40Doesn't matter.
22:41I'm gonna show you what you did wrong there.
22:42Take that, Jim.
22:44Oh, nice counter right there from El Haraj.
22:46Been looking for that shot all night.
22:49Finally landed it.
22:51Melnick again.
22:52He's trying.
22:53Look, I understand using the physicality and trying to take over the fight.
22:57But, man, fight at the proper distance, man, at the right time.
23:00Now, I told you, El Haraj, he likes the in-range, the in-close, mid-range distance.
23:06He has short arms.
23:07And he can sneak Melnick over the top.
23:10It's easy.
23:11This fight's easy if Melnick keeps the fight on the outside.
23:15He can still press forward.
23:16Still be aggressive.
23:17Still be dominant.
23:18But at the right distance and right range.
23:20And so, El Haraj has no opportunity of landing anything on him.
23:25Clean break.
23:26Clean break.
23:27Clean break.
23:28El Haraj trying to make it hard on him.
23:29Turning it into a rough fight for the 22-year-old Vito Melnick who said,
23:35Look, man, losing my fight against James Martin in April of 2021
23:40and then rattling off those 10 wins was the best thing that happened to me
23:45because it helped me focus on my career and not believe that I had everything figured out.
23:50Well, he's going to have to figure some things out here against Khalil El Haraj.
23:59Luckily, he's got Ronnie Shields to help him out in the corner.
24:02How do we feel?
24:04Good.
24:05I got it. I got it.
24:08Okay, now listen.
24:09You got to watch this guy's head, okay?
24:11Look, when you're in there, he's trying to hold you.
24:14Move your head side to side.
24:15Then pull your hands out.
24:17You got to dig that body, man.
24:19Okay?
24:20You got to dig into the body.
24:21But Vito, you got to lead off with the uppercut.
24:24That's going to keep that head up.
24:26That's going to enable you to get to the body, okay?
24:28Look, just move your head over a little bit and get the uppercut in.
24:31It's going to be there for you all day.
24:33Okay?
24:36Come on, man.
24:37Let's go to work in there now, okay?
24:45Come on.
24:46Deep breath.
24:47Let them out slow.
24:48Come on.
24:49Let's go to work in there.
24:50Let's go.
24:51Let's go.
24:52Let's go.
24:57All right.
24:58Round 7 of a scheduled 10-round fight for Vito Milnicki.
25:12Oh, good body.
25:13I like that.
25:15Hurrah.
25:16That's what he needs to continue to do.
25:18Just like anything, you want to chop a tree down,
25:20you want to hit the base, hit that body,
25:23hit it downstairs.
25:29And again, now hurrah, what he needs to do to cut off that ring.
25:33Again, he attempted it there,
25:34but a little bit off balance,
25:36his punch where Milnicki is going,
25:38where he perceives he's going.
25:51There's a lot of stuff going on backstage
25:54with the drama that we've heard about
25:56between Michaela Mayer,
25:58Cade Caroma,
25:59and Sandy Ryan,
26:01the welterweight champion.
26:03And we'll have Mark flesh it out
26:06and break down exactly what is happening
26:09as the fight, as the night progresses.
26:13That'll be our main event on ESPN.
26:16And we'll move over from ESPN
26:18and move over from ESPN Plus
26:22at 10.30 Eastern Time.
26:25Nice combination there from El Jaraz.
26:28You know what, I would say
26:32Milnicki is lucky that El Jaraz don't have
26:35a whole lot of knockouts.
26:37He only got two knockouts in 16 or 22 fights.
26:41However, I've seen a guy just recently get knocked out
26:44last week, man,
26:45with a guy, a fighter that had one knockout.
26:47So again, it's the punches that you don't see
26:50are the ones that hurt you.
26:51It doesn't matter if they only have two knockouts,
26:53one knockout, or no knockouts.
26:55You always got to be on your P's and Q's
26:58defensively.
27:00That was Alan Garcia last week
27:03out in Phoenix, Arizona.
27:05And that was a vicious knockout.
27:08But these are the situations that happen in the sport.
27:11That's why you have to be focused at all times.
27:14Every now and then, El Jaraz is landing that
27:16looping right hand and occasional left hook
27:18over the top.
27:20When Milnicki is trying to disengage and get out
27:24and reposition himself.
27:26Got to be careful moving forward.
27:28If you pull out too soon
27:30from the wrong range with your hands down,
27:32you're going to get caught on the way out.
27:44Let's go.
27:58Time.
28:12Okay, left.
28:14Let's go with a stiff jab.
28:16Now, okay?
28:17Let's go with a hard jab.
28:19Go with the hard jab.
28:20Why not?
28:22I know.
28:23Keep shooting it over there.
28:24Okay?
28:25That's legal on that side.
28:27So just keep it.
28:28Throw that right hand over there again
28:30and throw a hook behind it.
28:31Okay?
28:32Every now and then, you got to throw a combination though.
28:34You got to double your punches up.
28:36Double, triple the punches up.
28:38That's going to make an opening for you.
28:40Okay?
28:41Come on, man.
28:42Let's go to work.
28:45Yeah, yeah.
28:46Easy.
28:47Easy.
28:48Listen.
28:50Let's go through the middle of the ring.
28:51We don't need to be on these ropes.
28:52Okay?
29:02Stay in that corner.
29:08Listen to me.
29:09Ain't no brother-in-law in here.
29:11We touch gloves at the beginning of the fight.
29:13You over here, you're touching gloves.
29:15This is like sparring session.
29:16It's like, hey, good job, man.
29:18Come out the next round and keep doing what you're doing, man.
29:21You're doing a great job.
29:22Like, Nick, you got to be meaner than that, man.
29:24You don't want to touch this man's hands at all.
29:27Or gloves.
29:28You want to put leather on his face and body.
29:30That's what you want to do.
29:31Not tap him.
29:32Hey, good job, bud.
29:33No, man.
29:34Leave that for the gym.
29:35Not for the fight.
29:37We're in round 8 of a scheduled 10-round fight.
29:40This will be the last fight of our undercard here on top-ranked
29:46boxing on ESPN+.
29:48You, of course, can stay here and watch our three-fight main
29:51card, or at 10.30 Eastern, we will be starting our fight card
29:57on ESPN2.
30:00Because we'll be coming on ESPN after.
30:05The Virginia Tech at Miami game, currently 27-17, but there's
30:09seven minutes and 32 seconds still left in the third quarter.
30:13So we will see you on ESPN2.
30:19That'll be Bruce Shushu Carrington opening the card in a
30:23stiff test against Sully Sagawa, who's coming off of that upset
30:29against the other number-one-rated fighter,
30:33when they stepped into the ring, Ruben Villa.
30:38Look, I said it earlier today, you know, professional fighting,
30:42man, is about hurting your opposition.
30:44That's what it's about.
30:46That handshake stuff, man, it bothers me.
30:49I see it all the time by young fighters.
30:51All the time.
30:52Wasn't Pacquiao that type, though?
30:54That he, like, would bow and then kind of dap you up?
30:57Pacquiao didn't dap you up.
30:59No.
31:01I mean, if it was a foul or something like that, Pacquiao would maybe go,
31:04like, right away.
31:05All right, we cool, we cool, we cool.
31:07However, man, at the end of the round, no, Pacquiao never tapped
31:11the gloves at the end of the round.
31:13Like, good job, Tim.
31:14No way.
31:15Absolutely not.
31:16He was like, your Achilles okay?
31:18Your ankle good?
31:22You got blisters on your feet.
31:24That man put me in the wheelchair, man.
31:26I'll never forget it.
31:27I still got the wheelchair, man.
31:29I swear.
31:30Someday he's going to end up on eBay.
31:34Monica's going to get tired of it being in the garage.
31:36He's going to be on eBay.
31:39Oh, man, I laugh about it now, man.
31:43She went through it that night.
31:44Yes, we did.
31:48Nice left hook there on the inside for Melnicki.
31:50Clean break, clean break.
31:51Clean break.
31:58Look, Tim, we talked about a lot of fighters being tested tonight.
32:02It's not a test of are you going to lose.
32:05It's can you take it to the next level.
32:09Facts.
32:101,000%.
32:11Can you take it to the next level?
32:13Again, are you ready for the next level?
32:15Show me that you're ready for the next level.
32:19I don't know.
32:20I don't know.
32:21I mean, he's in there with a tough guy, but he's a guy that's hittable.
32:25He's there to be hit.
32:26He's there to be taken out.
32:28Now, I'm not saying you've got to stop him or knock him out.
32:33But you've got to dominate him.
32:34You've got to make him look different.
32:36That's how you move forward.
32:38And that's how you make believers out of everybody that's watching at home.
32:41You make it look different.
32:43You make it look easy.
32:45That's what the great ones do.
32:46Absolutely.
32:47You stand out.
32:48And so far, there's been one standout fighter, and that's Rojan Polanco.
32:51Yes.
32:52Who opened up that night.
32:53Made it look different.
32:55Against the guy, Marcelino Lopez, who had never been stopped, never been dropped.
32:59Made him take three knees.
33:00A man with that type of pride, Tim, to say,
33:03Man, I've got to take a knee after being knocked down by a vicious uppercut.
33:07That tells you he's different.
33:09Time!
33:10Move to the corner.
33:11Go to that corner and get this water.
33:13All right.
33:14Referee Charlie Fitch observes that it's wet over in the blue corner.
33:19A little bit of gamesmanship.
33:20Give their guy a break.
33:21All right.
33:23He's not even breathing.
33:24Nobody's breathing.
33:25Box!
33:27Well, he's breathing.
33:28He's not breathing hard.
33:29There's the tap again.
33:30Let's fight, man.
33:32There's the tap.
33:36Look, I like this young man, Melnicki.
33:38You know, I do.
33:40Got hit in another one.
33:41A nice right overhand right right there from El Jaraz.
33:50But, Tim, that's what we're talking about.
33:51You want to fight against the Pandoras, the Crawfords, the Madrimals,
33:56He's not there yet.
33:57The Zus, the Virgil Ortiz, the Merzitalias, the Boachuks, the Lubins of this division.
34:03I mean, you've got to show more.
34:05Yeah, he's not there yet.
34:07He's still growing.
34:08Still maturing.
34:12So, need a little bit more seasoning.
34:14Yeah.
34:15And he's going to gather.
34:16I mean, these type of fights right here, he's going to gather that type of seasoning.
34:20You know, because now he can go back to the draw board.
34:22He gets through this, he goes back to the draw board, he goes and learns new things.
34:25Yep.
34:26You know, you're in there with a shorter opposition.
34:28You know, you're leaning down.
34:30Your head is down.
34:31Why is your head down?
34:32Why don't you push his head down?
34:34Yeah.
34:35Take his legs.
34:36Put stress on his back.
34:37Like, little tricks of the trade, man.
34:39He's still got to learn.
34:41He's young.
34:4222 years old.
34:44That's another difference.
34:45You've got a guy that's 31 years old that has his men's training already.
34:48Yes.
34:49You know, that's the one disadvantage of starting so young.
34:52And that's the difference you see in a fighter like Shushu Carrington, who's 27 years old.
34:57A grown man himself.
34:58And Shushu Carrington, I'm going to tell you how smart he is.
35:01He's always had the mentality, but he didn't feel that he had the physical attributes.
35:05The physical strength to turn pro at a very young age.
35:08So he took his time.
35:10He said, you know what?
35:11Let me let my body mature.
35:14Think about that.
35:15Let me let my body mature.
35:17Now he's, what, 27, I believe, right now.
35:20Has his man strength right in the midst of his prime.
35:24And he said he didn't want to be fast-tracked.
35:26However, his performance is what's making him be on the fast track.
35:30Yep.
35:31He's fast-tracking himself.
35:33Already number one in the world.
35:34No, yeah.
35:35Anyway, it was here last time he fought.
35:37That was slick.
35:39From Melnicki?
35:40Yeah, that was slick.
35:41He hit El Harao on the hip.
35:45Smart.
35:47But it was on the same side as the referee.
35:48The referee didn't say anything.
35:51But you hit him in that sciatic nerve on the side, man.
35:54You can get him a dead leg.
35:55Stop!
35:56I used to hate getting hit in there, man.
35:57If my leg goes numb.
35:58Oh, I hated it.
35:59I hated it.
36:02But Art Hopkins used to do that all the time to people.
36:08Great b-hop.
36:10Might not be faster than you, but he was smarter than you.
36:12Stop!
36:14I don't want to hit.
36:15I'm going to have to take a point.
36:16Can you go ahead?
36:17No more.
36:18No more of that.
36:23Time!
36:30All right, baby.
36:31Let's look.
36:35Listen.
36:36But you've got to do it in the middle of the ring.
36:38Okay?
36:39Look.
36:40Let's go back to the jab now.
36:41I want a good, stiff jab this round.
36:43Okay?
36:44I need a good, stiff jab.
36:45Keep him on the end of your puncher.
36:47Okay?
36:48Keep him on the end of that.
36:50All right?
36:51Just the last round.
36:52Okay?
36:53Let's go.
36:54I need you in the middle of the ring.
36:56Okay?
36:57Let's go.
36:58I need you in the middle of the ring.
36:59Okay?
37:00But I need a good, stiff jab with straight punches.
37:02Straight punches and uppercuts.
37:04If you can get to the body, get to it.
37:06If you can't, forget about it.
37:07Don't worry about it.
37:12Ronnie is content with just taking the victory as it comes.
37:16Yeah, take the victory, man.
37:18Don't give this man an opportunity to land anything vicious over the top
37:21while you're sitting in the range where he's going to have success
37:25with those shorter arms.
37:27Wait for the bell.
37:28Wait for the bell.
37:29Wait for the bell.
37:30Wax!
37:31But, again, I go back and I say,
37:34Look, you got the reach advantage.
37:35You got the height advantage.
37:36Use that reach, man.
37:38Stay on the outside and pick, pick, pick.
37:40I told you.
37:41You can still dominate the center of the ring coming forward at the right range.
37:47Using coming behind your jab.
37:50The crowd is saying, Let's go beat over this El Jaraz who comes out firing.
37:55And he's throwing a little bit more combinations.
37:58Yeah, he's like, Hey, 10th round, let's see what happens here.
38:01Let me take a shot.
38:11El Jaraz needs a level changing to come over with the overhand right there.
38:14There he did it.
38:16That's so funny.
38:17Hey, you might have a future in this commentary thing, Tim.
38:20That's what he needs to continue to do.
38:23Now, Nicky don't understand about the level changes.
38:25He's got to be careful with that.
38:27If he pulls straight back and he drops that lead hand, he can get caught.
38:33The level change is just changing levels right in front.
38:35You're dropping your level.
38:36Now, if your opposition doesn't drop with you,
38:38you can sneak them over the top.
38:40And El Jaraz, he can set it up by throwing a couple of shots to the body.
38:44Couple of shots to the body.
38:45There he is attempting it right there.
38:47He's trying to set it up now.
38:48And he's looking for that looping right hand.
38:50And he wants to catch...
38:51Well, Nicky, nice uppercut right there.
38:53He wants to catch him as he's moving out or moving away.
38:59There it is.
39:00Another level change.
39:01He's trying to set it up.
39:02Coming in with the hook at that time.
39:04Yeah, he's trying to set it up.
39:05He's trying to set it up.
39:07Another level change.
39:08He's trying to set it up.
39:09Coming in with the hook at that time.
39:10Yeah, he's trying to switch sides on him.
39:14Now, Nicky was smart.
39:15Got underneath it.
39:16Saw it coming.
39:19Quick hands from Vito Melnicky,
39:21but that right uppercut from El Jaraz pushes him off.
39:30Nice double right hand from Vito,
39:33but not much behind it.
39:38There it is.
39:39The mouthpiece.
39:40Something came flying out.
39:41Tape.
39:42The tape from the glove.
39:43I don't know.
39:44Something on the...
39:45On the back of the tracks.
39:46Yeah.
39:47Yeah.
39:51Great round from El Jaraz here in the 10th.
39:56Break.
39:57Clean break.
39:58Yeah.
39:59You recognize the setups.
40:00I was short.
40:01Well, I'm still damn short.
40:02I know that.
40:03Stop.
40:04Stop.
40:05You always like punching up.
40:06I've had difficulties when guys were...
40:07You ain't small.
40:08...taller than you.
40:09I couldn't stand fighting smaller guys.
40:18Time.
40:19Time.
40:20Nice shot, John.
40:21Good job.
40:22All right.
40:23Time.
40:24Time.
40:25Time.
40:26Time.
40:27Time.
40:28Time.
40:29Time.
40:30Time.
40:31Time.
40:33All right.
40:3410 rounds in the book.
41:03One more.
41:2010 rounds in the book.
41:30Good job.
41:31came into the theater at MSG and gave Riddleman Licky all he could handle.
41:38A lot of unexpected combinations and Riddleman Licky just couldn't get out of gear.
41:44Should have come away with the win regardless, but could be a close decision
41:49as Marcin Licky is still over there with the commission figuring out the math.
41:53Good rounds of experience for Vito tonight.
41:59A lot of room to grow for the fighter who actually came into this fight
42:06ranked number 4 by the WBA, number 14 by the WBC.
42:11And after his performance you'd have to say he's somewhere in the middle of that.
42:15Carras, the former Italian middleweight champion, 2 and 2 with one knockout
42:25over his last four fights.
42:28He said, people are going to be watching me back home at 1.30 in the morning
42:32over in Italy, but I have my fans.
42:37Riddleman Licky comes all the way across to congratulate his foe.
42:44Carras said, look, I understand this is the biggest opportunity of my career.
42:48I'm going to make the best of it.
42:50A chubby kid who wanted to lose weight when he was a small young man.
42:54His father didn't want him to box, and then he watched the fight and he said,
42:57look, I agree you should debut as a professional.
43:00Here he is in his 23rd fight fighting at the theater at MSG.
43:05That means a lot to fighters out in Europe to fight here in New York City.
43:19Mark Chinook is in the ring, and we'll send it to him for the decision.
43:26Ladies and gentlemen, here inside the theater at Madison Square Garden after ten rounds,
43:31we go to the judges' scorecards for the official decision.
43:34Tony Pagliolo has it 95-95.
43:39David Taylor, 100-90.
43:42Alan Nace, 98-92.
43:45For your winner by majority decision, Vito White Magic Malnicki Jr.
43:55All right, decision win for Vito Malnicki.
43:59There's a lot brewing in the controversy with Sandy Ryan, the WBO welterweight champion.
