00:05Holy Rosary RC Church today in Port-au-Prince, moments after a robbery, he would now have
00:10to take his plea for pardon to the court.
00:13The bandit had hoped to evade capture by police by fleeing into the church just after 10am
00:18and disguising himself by slipping on an alb, a traditional gown worn by priests, hoping
00:24to fool police who in hot pursuit.
00:27But according to a social media release issued by the Archdiocese of Port-au-Spain, the suspect's
00:31disguise did not fool the police and he was later apprehended.
00:36Reporting on the sequence of events, investigators say around 9.45am, three masked men stole
00:41this grey Nissan Frontier Maraval at gunpoint from the owner.
00:46An all-points bulletin was issued and police saw the vehicle proceeding along Park Street
00:50in Port-au-Spain, but failed to intercept the stolen vehicle.
00:54But upon reaching the vicinity of Henry Street, police were able to block the van's path,
00:59forcing the vehicle to come to a stop.
01:02Three armed men exited the vehicle, with two of the bandits running towards Shafford Courts
01:06while the third suspect ran towards the church.
01:09He was later held and police also arrested a second suspect near Shafford Courts.
01:15Police say the third suspect remains at large.
01:18In the crashed van, police found some of the stolen items from the previous robbery as
01:22well as a loaded firearm.
