00:00Today on Forbes, the top 10 richest people in the world, July 2024.
00:08Legendary investor Warren Buffett disclosed in June that he gave away Berkshire Hathaway
00:12shares worth some $5.3 billion.
00:16That, plus a slight dip in the value of his stock, was enough to knock him down three
00:21spots among the world's richest to number 10 as of July 1st.
00:25That's the lowest Buffett, the most generous person on the planet in absolute dollar terms,
00:30has ranked in years.
00:32He is one of just two people among the top 10 richest to fall in the ranks this month.
00:38French luxury goods tycoon Bernard Arnault, who had been the world's wealthiest person
00:42from February through late May, slips to number 3 as shares of his LVMH group fell for the
00:48second month in a row.
00:50Meanwhile, Tesla's Elon Musk holds on to the top spot, thanks to a very good June.
00:57The electric car maker's shareholders voted in favor of Musk keeping nearly $50 billion
01:02of performance-based stock options.
01:05While Forbes will continue to discount the Tesla options from the pay package by 50%
01:10until he receives those options, a lengthy appeal process is expected.
01:14His fortune is still up by $11.1 billion since June 1st, and nearly $19 billion in the past
01:20two months.
01:22His net worth will likely get a boost soon from SpaceX, which is reportedly set to sell
01:27shares in a tender offer, valuing the company at $210 billion, up from $180 billion last
01:34December.
01:35Musk owns an estimated 42% stake.
01:39Jeff Bezos, whose fortune is up $15.5 billion in the last month, moves up to number 2 as
01:46Amazon's market capitalization surpassed $2 trillion for the first time in late June.
01:53The biggest gainer in June was Larry Ellison, whose fortune rose by $26.8 billion as shares
01:59of Oracle soared to all-time highs.
02:03Forbes has been keeping track of the world's billionaires since 1987.

03:18And again, even though his net worth rose by $26.8 billion in June, more than anyone
03:23else in the top 10, it wasn't enough to move up in the ranks.

03:57At number 8 is Bill Gates, who is worth $133.4 billion.
04:03Gates' fortune rose by $4 billion during June, enough to move up to number 8.
04:08Largely due to the $59 billion he has donated to the Gates Foundation, including a $20 billion
04:13gift in July 2022, he was overtaken as the world's richest person in 2018 by Jeff Bezos.
04:21At number 9 is Steve Ballmer, who is worth $130.7 billion.
