00:00 When TV6 visited Unique Bar this morning, officers from the Central Division and the Homicide Bureau were conducting their final searches of the compound and were observed making several notes.
00:09 At about midday, the bar resumed operations.
00:12 A spokesperson for the bar, who is a retired senior police officer, condemned the killing.
00:18 He told us, "This is a generally high-policed area. However, criminal elements are taking advantage of the few weaknesses in the area."
00:29 The spokesperson said Myers was a frequent patron of the bar.
00:33 He added that this whole situation was very unfortunate and it is hoped that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
00:41 Officers at the Rima Police Station, where Myers was stationed, were said to be having a hard time coming to terms with Myers' killing.
00:49 We are told that he was a good police officer, dependable and selfless. But more than that, he was a good man.
00:56 At about 10.15pm last night, Myers was liming with his wife and a friend, who is also a licensed firearm users holder, at Unique Bar along Montrose Main Road in Chagones, when they were confronted by a lone gunman.
01:11 The man walked up to the trio and announced a hold-up.
01:15 However, as he looked away, Myers pulled out his licensed firearm and shot at the suspect.
01:21 The suspect retained fire before turning and fleeing the scene.
01:26 Myers was shot in the chest with the bullet exiting his left arm.
01:30 Police and paramedics were notified and Myers was taken to the Chagones District Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
01:37 Investigators observed a trail of blood running from the bar to the road and as a result, they determined that Myers had shot and injured his attacker.
01:45 An all-points bulletin was issued and checks were made at all nearby medical institutions.
01:50 Just after midnight, a 23-year-old man from Nelson Street in Port of Spain was dropped off at the Port of Spain General Hospital for gunshot wounds to both shoulders.
02:01 The police were immediately notified.
02:03 This individual is believed to be the same suspect who shot at Myers.
02:08 The suspect underwent emergency surgery and was said to be under police guard up till late this evening.
