00:05Francis Ford Coppola has released the first teaser trailer to his epic, self-funded passion
00:10project Megalopolis.
00:12The film, which will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 17, is a Roman epic set
00:16in a reimagined modern America.
00:19Led by Adam Driver, the film's sprawling cast also includes Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf,
00:23Jon Voight, Jason Schwartzman, Laurence Fishburne, and Dustin Hoffman, among others.
00:36The teaser footage shows us more of the scale and ambition of the project, which Coppola
00:40first began writing in 1983.
00:43The film reportedly cost $120 million to make, which was funded in part by the sale of a
00:48significant portion of the director's wine empire.
00:51Coppola hosted a screening of the project at the end of March for potential buyers attended
00:55by studio execs from Universal, Netflix, and Sony.
00:59However, the film is still seeking distribution, as several of the screening's attendees told
01:03The Hollywood Reporter that Megalopolis will face an uphill battle.
01:07One distributor said,
01:08There is just no way to position this movie, while another noted that while everyone is
01:12rooting for the director, there is the business side of things.
