00:00 The Chinese embassy in India issued a statement regarding an interview with Taiwan's Foreign
00:07 Minister Joseph Wu on an Indian news channel.
00:10 Allegations were made against the channel for advocating for Taiwan's independence.
00:14 In response, Taipei responded, asserting both India and Taiwan as independent democracies
00:20 with free press, not under anyone's influence.
00:23 The statement also condemned China's "one China" policy violation and termed it as "entirely
00:27 unacceptable".
00:28 According to the statement issued by the Chinese embassy on 29 February 2024, a specific Indian
00:34 TV channel broadcasted an interview with Joseph Wu, head of Taiwan's Foreign Affairs Office,
00:39 providing him a platform to advocate for Taiwan's independence and spread misinformation.
00:44 And so China believed that it is a violation of "one China" policy and it is "entirely
00:49 unacceptable".
00:50 In response, Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that neither India or Taiwan
00:54 is a part of the People's Republic of China, also known as PRC.
00:58 And so we are not their puppets.
01:00 We are both independent democracies with free press and that cannot be directed.
01:05 Taipei also urged Beijing to worry about its economic slowdown instead of threatening neighbours.
01:10 For those who don't know, the relation between China and Taiwan is distinct.
01:14 Taiwan is a small island located 100 miles off the southeastern coast of China.
01:18 Since 1949, Taiwan considered itself as an independent nation, but only 14 countries
01:23 have recognized it as such across the globe and established diplomatic relations.
01:29 In recent times, both nations also locked horns in a diplomatic rift when China attempted
01:33 to overlook Taiwan's election with spy balloons and even interfere indirectly by launching
01:38 dramatic attacks on several candidates.
01:40 China regards Taiwan as its province and believes that one day Taiwan will become a part of
01:45 it.
01:46 However, Taiwan considers itself as an independent country and has its own constitution and elected
01:51 government.
