Transcript
00:00 I
00:01 Don't see mostly here with HBCU legends and I have a legend in the world of entertainment rap as well as sports
00:08 It's none other than my favorite rapper of all time
00:11 Ice kid, how you doing, too? Yeah. Yeah. What's up with you, man?
00:16 Always wanted to say that man. Patience to you you were honored by the Naismith
00:23 basketball Hall of Fame for having the first ever
00:28 Ice Cube
00:30 Award impact award in your name and talk about that honor and what it means to you
00:37 For one, you know, it was pleasantly surprising to get a honor like that
00:45 We started to big three
00:48 now eight years ago
00:51 Never did I think you know did
00:54 will we
00:57 You know get into the Hall of Fame
01:00 so soon, it's like
01:03 It's really, you know seem like a short time
01:06 Very honored
01:09 Blown away in a lot of ways
01:12 But starting a league like the big three
01:15 It's all about credibility
01:18 I'm starting a professional league
01:21 from scratch
01:24 We started with Hall of Famers as coaches
01:27 like dr. J and Iceman and Rick Barry and Gary Payton and
01:33 Lisa Leslie and Nancy Lieberman
01:36 So that gives us a lot of credibility, you know, we started with
01:41 players like Allen Iverson and Chauncey Billups Jermaine O'Neal
01:47 Corey McGuetty
01:53 Gave us a lot of credibility. Yeah, and so this right here is
01:59 You know a different kind of credibility as we tried to
02:04 you know put a put a
02:07 great foundation around this league
02:09 And looks like that's what you guys have done I mean you pioneered the league you would co-founder of the big three
02:18 But also you had the vision for taking this thing to where it is internationally at this time
02:24 You know, you have never been afraid of
02:29 Setting out on your own and starting new ventures and in just being creative the way you have
02:37 Yeah, I think we have to be
02:41 Trailblazers
02:46 Yes, we can't just rely on the traditional way
02:51 Things are done
02:53 you know in America
02:55 we have to
02:57 try to
02:59 Venture out and and gain new ground
03:04 Like that's what we had to do with music
03:08 NWA they was not
03:14 Really into what we were doing I
03:16 saw easy selling
03:19 some of our records out of his trunk to
03:22 Get hurt even in hip-hop and so that's always been my path
03:30 When I got in the movies I
03:35 Did a couple of movies but then at a certain point I wanted to
03:41 Produce my own movies and write my own movies
03:43 so that's when I start doing things like Friday and
03:49 Players Club and and just you know trying to make sure that
03:56 That you know, my voice was hurt with the projects that I'm doing same with sports
04:03 if you really look at
04:06 the price of
04:10 NBA franchises or NFL franchises a
04:14 Lot of people don't have that kind of capital liquid, you know, we're talking about
04:18 billions of dollars liquid and
04:21 So a lot of us are priced out
04:25 What a league like the big three
04:28 At his inception
04:31 We're not priced out we can we can have ownership
04:35 We can build something together
04:37 we can
04:39 Create what what they created with the NBA?
04:42 You know
04:44 over 75 years ago
04:46 Yeah
04:48 We on the cusp. We're on our way
04:51 You
04:53 (upbeat music)
04:55 (upbeat music)
