00:02 Hey, Psych2Goers.
00:07 Are you crushing on someone right now?
00:09 Liking someone can be incredibly confusing and frustrating
00:13 because it can either end in love or heartbreak.
00:17 But it's also one of the most fun and exciting things
00:19 you could ever experience.
00:22 So while there is no definitive theory yet
00:24 about how we develop crushes
00:25 and what we go through when we do,
00:28 here at Psych2Go, we've done our best
00:30 to come up with these six stages
00:31 we believe everyone with a crush goes through.
00:34 Stage one, interest.
00:37 So the story begins when you meet someone new
00:39 for the first time and you feel intrigued by them.
00:42 This stage can happen at any given moment.
00:45 Sometimes it can be as quick
00:46 as when you first lay your eyes on them.
00:48 And other times it can take a while before you feel a spark.
00:52 When you develop a crush on someone you've known
00:54 for a long time, like a close friend,
00:56 a lot of people tend to deny
00:58 and debate with their feelings first
01:00 before they can accept them.
01:02 But the moment you do,
01:04 you'll suddenly feel the pull
01:06 of romantic attraction taking a hold of you,
01:08 that there's something special about this person.
01:11 That's when you move onto stage two, curiosity.
01:15 Did you look up your crush's Facebook profile,
01:18 browse through all their posts and tweets,
01:20 and view their Instagram stories?
01:22 Maybe you even added them on one of their handles
01:24 if you were feeling brave enough.
01:26 You did all of this so that you could get a better idea
01:29 about what kind of person they are,
01:31 how much they have in common with you,
01:33 and how compatible you'd be together.
01:35 Once someone catches your eye,
01:37 it's only natural to feel curious about them.
01:39 You wanna get to know them better,
01:41 all their likes and dislikes, their hobbies,
01:43 their dreams, their favorite things.
01:46 Some people do this by simply going up to their crush
01:48 and asking them about it.
01:50 But others feel too flustered and nervous
01:52 to even strike up a casual conversation.
01:54 So that's where social media enters the story,
01:57 like a knight in shining armor.
02:00 Stage three, infatuation.
02:03 Now that you know for sure you have a crush on this person,
02:06 next comes infatuation.
02:08 And for many of us,
02:09 this is the best part about having a crush,
02:11 because when you're infatuated with someone,
02:13 your whole world starts to change.
02:16 Everything seems so much brighter,
02:18 more vibrant and more beautiful to you
02:20 now that you've found someone
02:21 who makes you giddy with excitement
02:23 every time you think about them.
02:25 There's this never ending flurry of butterflies
02:29 fluttering in your stomach,
02:30 and you always feel like you're floating on cloud nine
02:33 with each glance or each word of conversation
02:35 you share with your crush.
02:37 They send you a text message
02:39 and you feel like your whole day is made.
02:41 They make you laugh
02:42 and the memory doesn't leave your mind for days.
02:45 Even the mere mention of their name
02:46 is enough to make you blush and swoon.
02:49 At this stage, everything seems perfect.
02:53 Your crush is everything you ever wanted,
02:56 and you just want this feeling to last forever.
02:59 Then comes stage four, sharing.
03:02 You know you're really starting to get serious feelings
03:05 about someone when you tell your friends about them.
03:08 Of course, sometimes your friends can figure it out
03:10 for themselves when you have a crush.
03:12 But what matters most isn't that your friends already know,
03:16 it's that you wanted to tell them about it regardless.
03:19 You wanna talk to your friends
03:20 about how your crush makes you feel
03:22 and tell them all the things you like about them.
03:24 You want their advice
03:25 about what to reply to your crush's text
03:27 or what to say next time you see them.
03:30 And you ask them what they think your crush meant
03:32 when they told you this or that.
03:34 You want their support and their encouragement,
03:36 but also their honest opinion.
03:38 And it's usually because of your friends
03:40 that you slowly start to realize
03:42 the flaws your crushes have
03:44 or where your relationship with them is going,
03:46 which can end with you either heading to stage five
03:50 or straight to stage six.
03:52 More on that later.
03:53 Stage five, falling in love.
03:57 To like and to love are two very different things.
04:01 But sometimes your crush turns into something more
04:04 and you find yourself falling in love with them.
04:06 At this stage, your feelings for them
04:08 are no longer clouding your judgment about them.
04:11 You've stopped putting them on a pedestal
04:12 and thinking of them as perfect.
04:14 And instead, get to know them well
04:16 and grow closer to them in a way
04:18 that allowed you to see them for who they really are.
04:21 And if you're lucky enough
04:22 that they feel the same way about you too,
04:25 then you're on your way to starting
04:26 a romantic relationship with your crush.
04:29 Congratulations.
04:30 Stage six, falling out of love.
04:34 On the other hand, however,
04:36 you may find yourself falling out of love with your crush
04:38 after having seriously thought everything out
04:40 between the two of you.
04:42 Maybe you realize they aren't as great as you used to think
04:45 and it's made you lose interest in them.
04:47 Or perhaps you feel that there's very little chance
04:50 of them ever liking you back
04:51 or seeing you as more than just a friend.
04:54 Whatever the reason may be,
04:55 it's made you reconsider your feelings
04:57 and snap out of your crush.
04:59 It may take some time before you can accept it.
05:02 And depending on how strongly you once felt about them,
05:05 it can be a painfully devastating thing to go through.
05:08 But once it's all over and you finally moved on,
05:11 you'll thank yourself for ending it
05:13 because deep down inside,
05:15 you knew that this person wasn't right for you
05:17 and that it just wasn't meant to be.
05:19 Oh well, maybe the next one to come along will be better.
05:22 Do you relate to any of the things mentioned here?
05:25 How does having a crush feel like for you?
05:28 Can you identify the stage you're in right now?
