00:00 When visiting wildlife parks and on safaris, we all could get a little carried away by
00:04 the shenanigans of these creatures.
00:07 We also know that, sometimes, there is an urge to pull over and take pictures with or
00:11 of these animals or have some sceneries of them on tape.
00:16 But believe us when we tell you this, these animals were put in a cage and out of human
00:20 contact for a good reason.
00:21 You should never listen to that voice in your head telling you to get close to these wild
00:25 beasts.
00:30 We knew it wouldn't be so easy to dissuade you from such risky thoughts.
00:33 Beyond common sense, there are certain things you need to know on how to get the fullest
00:37 experience with wildlife and not get yourself in trouble in the process.
00:42 Welcome to another episode of Forever Green, and this time we will be taking a look at
00:46 some cute looking wild animals you shouldn't mess around with.
00:50 Whenever you see them, keep a safe social distance.
00:55 Let's get wild.
01:00 Number 15.
01:01 Giraffes.
01:02 Giraffes are sweet, gentle looking, not forgetting, long necked mammals found in Africa.
01:16 They are regarded as the tallest living terrestrial animals, the largest ruminant animal, and
01:21 the gentlest animal on the planet.
01:25 Anyone who's seen a giraffe would agree to this, and yes, they look cute.
01:30 They are easily recognized by their characteristic long necks, legs, tongues, horn-like ossicones,
01:36 and distinctive coat patterns.
01:39 Did you know that the giraffe was given its scientific name of a giraffe, Giraffa camulopardalis,
01:45 because it was believed that it looked like a camel wearing a leopard's coat?
01:49 Bet you didn't know that.
01:51 Coupled with their meekness, these animals literally have a big heart.
01:55 Trust me, they do.
01:58 The average heart of a giraffe weighs up to 25 pounds and can be as long as 2 feet.
02:05 What would make me want to stay away from giraffes if they are so gentle?
02:10 Wild animals, including the giraffe, tend to attack when they feel threatened or unsafe.
02:16 And when they're with their young, they sometimes forget how to be nice.
02:22 A giraffe packs a kick so potent it can kill a full grown man.
02:28 How else do you think they keep lions off their backs?
02:30 So whenever you find yourself with a giraffe, especially those with kids, do the world a
02:35 favor and don't go spooking them.
02:41 Number 14.
02:43 Pandas.
02:47 These are arguably the cutest animals on the planet presently.
02:52 Pandas have grown to be the people's favorite in various zoos with the rare privilege of
02:56 housing one.
02:59 This may be attributed to their flat face, large eyes, soft appearance, rounded outline,
03:04 and contrasting color, which explains why our hearts just melt at the sight of these
03:08 creatures.
03:10 Perhaps we all fell in love with Poe of Kung Fu Panda.
03:14 Who knows?
03:17 One thing is for sure, everyone loves a panda.
03:24 Pandas found in zoos are so lethargic that they spend most of their time sleeping and
03:28 eating their favorite meal, bamboo shoots.
03:32 They spend as long as 14 hours daily eating.
03:36 Nothing else seems to matter to these critters, not even sex or the fact that they may go
03:39 extinct.
03:43 We've established that pandas are cute, look fluffy, and are so adorable you could cry,
03:47 but don't go in for a cuddle.
03:49 Pandas pack one hell of a bite.
03:53 How else would they be able to break through bamboo shoots?
03:58 Beyond what is portrayed by captive pandas, wild giant pandas are the complete opposite
04:02 of what those in the zoos have made us believe.
04:05 In 2006, a 28-year-old drunken man named Zhang climbed into a panda enclosure in Beijing
04:12 Zoo and tried to pet the inhabitant.
04:16 He did that to show off to his companion, but all he had to show for his adventure was
04:20 a right calf savaged beyond recognition.
04:24 The great panda can cause such great injuries because of its incredibly chunky skull and
04:28 Mohican-like sagittal crest, which serves as the anchor point for massive chewing muscles
04:36 that deliver one of the highest bite forces available to any carnivore.
04:41 It might also interest you to know that pandas are omnivores.
04:44 They probably decided to eat bamboo because they are readily available and don't have
04:47 to chase after it.
04:50 #13 Elephants Elephants are the largest existing land animals.
05:01 A male Asian elephant can weigh up to 10,000 pounds, while a male African elephant can
05:06 stand as tall as 13 feet at the shoulder and weigh over 15,000 pounds.
05:10 They are regarded as one of the most intelligent mammals, showing a range of emotions.
05:18 They have been known to cry when hurt, laugh when happy, and play regularly, making them
05:22 an absolute joy to watch.
05:25 They are admired and loved by many, especially those in the West, while those who share their
05:31 land with them are sick of the sights of these large mammals.
05:36 Elephants need about 450 kilograms of food daily.
05:39 Not only do they have large appetites, but they are also messy eaters, scattering and
05:44 uprooting as much as eaten.
05:48 Their search for food with decreasing wildlife habitats has led them to encroach into the
05:51 farmlands of local farmers.
05:56 Those who dare to come in their way or bump into them at such times usually have sorry
06:00 tales to tell at the end of the encounter, that is if they even get to tell the stories.
06:07 Due to their enormous size, they sometimes can kill people, usually by trampling them
06:12 or throwing them with their trunks.
06:16 When elephants are wounded, they can charge up to 30 miles per hour, which makes them
06:20 dangerous at those times to humans and any nearby animal.
06:26 Solitary rogue old males have been reported to be more likely to charge without provocation
06:31 and are especially territorial.
06:34 We also wouldn't recommend you getting between a mother elephant and her calf.
06:41 Number 12, Tiger.
06:48 Tigers are admired by many as being one of the most beautiful yet ferocious animals.
06:53 The beautiful, alluring pattern on their fur coupled with their mesmerizing eyes is enough
06:58 to hide their true brutal nature.
07:01 Every cat lover would fantasize about owning one of these big cats.
07:04 In fact, they are the largest wild cats.
07:08 On days they are not too busy hunting down other animals, tigers rarely roar and love
07:12 themselves a good swim.
07:15 They can swim and choose to do so for fun or when they hunt.
07:20 An average male tiger can weigh as much as 300 kilograms.
07:24 That's approximately the average weight of six humans.
07:28 Despite being known to devour anything that comes in their way, be it wild boar, deer,
07:32 antelope, bear, bird, fish, crocodile and more, tigers don't see humans as food.
07:39 Therefore they don't tend to attack humans unless when they feel threatened or you look
07:43 delicious.
07:44 Just kidding.
07:46 That being said, there have been numerous reports of tigers feasting on locals and it
07:50 is totally unsafe to go near one.
07:55 All they have to do is sit on you and lick their paws.
07:57 You'd be dead in an instant.
08:02 Judging by their enormous weight.
08:04 They also pack a very powerful blow.
08:06 A swipe from a tiger's front hand is said to be enough to kill a person or an animal,
08:10 or at least is enough to earn you a date at the doctor's.
08:20 Before we move on, here's a quick challenge for you.
08:23 If you can leave a like on this video, smash that subscribe button and turn on the notifications
08:28 in less than 5 seconds, you will have 10 years of amazing luck.
08:32 Hurry up and try it, it actually works.
08:37 Number 11.
08:38 Ostriches.
08:39 Ostriches are known for their long necks, tall, slender legs, extremely large eyes,
08:47 biggest of any land animal and for having a top speed of over 70 km/h.
08:53 Not many know that and can cover up to 5 meters in a single stride.
08:58 They are flightless birds and are, without a doubt, the largest birds on the planet.
09:05 They can be found across Africa's hot savannas and open woodlands, not forgetting zoos and
09:09 wildlife preservation parks.
09:14 They go about their business peacefully, eating leaves, flowers, seeds, lizards and other
09:19 small creatures.
09:22 With the aid of their big eyes, which gives them excellent eyesight, ostriches can easily
09:26 spot danger from a mile away and either decide to run away or hide its head in the sand.
09:32 They are super effective when it comes to self-defense.
09:35 They deliver a kick so strong, it can kill any predator or a human with their powerful
09:40 legs which have two toes each and has long, sharp claws.
09:48 Number 10.
09:49 Polar Bears.
09:53 Polar bears are another cute, cuddly-looking yet fierce wild animal we love to see.
10:01 They dominate the icy wilderness and are at the top of the food chain.
10:04 Therefore, they never have to worry about being hunted for food.
10:09 An average adult female polar bear weighs as much as 570 pounds, while an average male
10:14 could weigh twice as much, approximately the average weight of 10 men.
10:21 They are the largest land predators and the biggest members of the bear family.
10:24 Look away, grizzly bear!
10:27 Although the chances of you running into a polar bear are rare, unless you are in regions
10:31 where they are found.
10:33 They are very skilled apex predators and should be avoided at all costs.
10:37 They have huge bellies to fill and are naturally very curious animals.
10:44 Whenever they come across something different from the ice blocks and ice holes they are
10:47 used to, they have a knack to investigate what it is.
10:52 And if it is something that smells and looks like food, even if it's humans, you know
10:57 what comes next.
11:00 Did I also mention that they can literally smell prey from a mile away?
11:04 Whenever you go to places with possible sightings of polar bears, be sure not to go out at night.
11:08 Take the warnings and guidelines seriously.
11:11 Pay attention to your surroundings, don't be drunk, and always remember, the risk of
11:15 getting in trouble is much higher at night.
11:22 Number 9 - Lions
11:28 Lions may be symbols of pride, strength, power, ferocity, resilience, and even royalty.
11:37 But make no mistake that these creatures share the same prestige and respect we accrue to
11:42 them.
11:44 Lions have a large appetite.
11:46 A female lion needs about 11 pounds of meat every day, while male lions need about 16
11:51 pounds of meat daily to satisfy their majestic selves.
11:56 Lions only have 2-3 hours each day to hunt for their food, and they endeavor to make
12:00 the most of this short window, killing, scavenging, or forcefully taking anything they can find.
12:09 They spend the rest sleeping, sitting, or resting after a successful hunt.
12:14 Over 100 men were reportedly killed while working on a railway in Kenya's Savo region
12:19 by two hungry, ravaging lions.
12:24 It's presumed that sick or elderly lions, who are no longer able to hunt their regular prey,
12:28 may turn to humans as a source of easy food.
12:32 Under normal circumstances, however, lions don't usually target humans.
12:40 Number 8 – Bison
12:45 Bison or American buffalos, as they are often called, may look cuddly, big, and slow-moving
12:50 animals, but don't let that fool you.
12:54 They can weigh up to 2,000 pounds and reach a top speed of 56 kilometers an hour, three
12:59 times faster than humans.
13:03 Bison are agile, good swimmers, and possess great vision, hearing, and sense of smell.
13:11 They are typically aggressive and hostile towards humans, and more aggressive during
13:14 their mating season in late July and August, and calving season in April and May.
13:22 They like to own their space most times, and lash out when people get too close to them.
13:28 It is advised that humans stay 25 yards away from bison whenever they visit parks or encounter
13:33 them in the wild.
13:35 They have caused the most fatalities and injuries to humans than grizzly bears or wolves in
13:40 North America.
13:47 Number 7 – Whales
13:53 Whales are generally curious, friendly, and easy-going aquatic animals.
13:59 It is unlikely that you will be attacked by a whale.
14:02 The only instances ever recorded were made by killer whales, which are not whales, but
14:08 dolphins.
14:09 Whales live way too far from human civilization to be a threat to us in the first place.
14:15 Whales will never, on any occasion, swallow a human being.
14:20 Because their throat isn't wide enough to swallow something as big as a human, bite
14:23 or attack anyone, because their teeth aren't designed for such, and humans don't even
14:27 come across to them as food.
14:31 That being said, you should never approach a whale when in the sea unless you are a whale
14:34 expert or a trainer.
14:37 You should also try approaching them by boat or with the use of diving equipment.
14:43 Number 6 – Gorillas
14:49 Gorillas are seen yet, maybe because the monstrous giant ape King Kong was portrayed as a gorilla.
14:58 But in truth, gorillas aren't the stone-cold killers people see them as.
15:01 It turned out King Kong had a soft spot for humans as well.
15:06 They are thoughtful and tread their paths carefully despite their huge size.
15:12 They don't usually attack humans without provocation or in defense of their young ones.
15:17 We actually get along well with gorillas, considering the fact that they share 98% of
15:21 our DNA.
15:23 They respond to threats by making bluff charges, hooting and pounding on its chest.
15:29 Once these warning signs are not heeded, the gorilla will attack.
15:34 It is unsafe to approach a gorilla without a tour guide or wildlife official.
15:40 Number 5 – Saltwater Crocodile
15:46 There is nothing cute about these 2200 pound monsters that could reach an average size
15:50 of 23 feet.
15:53 Whenever you find yourself close to these saltwater crocs, do yourself a favor, the
15:57 reputation among humans.
16:00 Most species are relatively harmless and would rather avoid us than confront us.
16:05 However, the aggressive saltwater crocodile is no respecter of person and would attack
16:12 anyone or anything which comes close to its territory because of their strong territoriality.
16:21 They populate the brackish and freshwater regions of the ocean.
16:27 Number 4 – Grizzly Bear
16:33 Grizzly bears or simply grizzlies are huge, brown-haired predators that have earned themselves
16:38 a reputation as nature's most formidable killing machines.
16:41 But how do they look so cute and innocent when not in predator mode?
16:47 They can be as tall as 8 feet tall and weigh up to 800 pounds, but that doesn't stop
16:51 them from clocking a top speed of 30 miles per hour.
16:57 Grizzly bears are a North American subspecies of the brown bear.
17:01 These awe-inspiring creatures have captivated and frightened humans for centuries.
17:08 The trick to avoiding attacks from bears in national parks is to resist the urge to feed
17:12 them.
17:14 This is why most parks mandate that visitors don't feed the animals and ensure that bears
17:18 don't have access to human food, resulting in bear-human confrontations.
17:24 A mother bear will also attack anyone who tries to come between it and its cubs.
17:35 Number 3 – Cape Buffalo
17:41 An African Cape Buffalo is not to be messed with.
17:46 There she is.
17:47 They are mostly moody and charge down perceived threats with no warning.
17:54 Cape buffaloes are said to be the most dangerous animals to hunt on foot.
17:59 They have a habit of circling back on their victims and will either gore them with their
18:03 horns or trample them to death.
18:06 According to reports, Cape buffalo kill about 200 people annually.
18:11 They live in herds, which vary in size, and work collectively to snuff out any perceived
18:16 threat.
18:18 The only thing we love about these enormous animals is their wallpaper-esque pictures,
18:23 unless you have other reasons to love these mean-looking creatures.
18:29 Number 2 – Rhinoceroses
18:35 Rhinoceroses or rhinos for short, are enormous mammals identified by their characteristic
18:39 horned snout.
18:43 Rhinoceros is formed from two Greek words, rhino, nose, and seros, horn.
18:50 Rhinos are of five different species, two of which have two horns, while others have
18:54 one.
18:58 Rhinoceroses are herbivores by design and don't prey on other animals despite their
19:01 enormous size.
19:03 They have the best defense systems in the jungle, strong horns, huge bodies, and armor-like
19:08 skins.
19:09 Hence, they have no natural predators.
19:14 Nonetheless, they get startled and when they do, they charge directly at whatever has spooked
19:19 them at a speed of up to 35 miles per hour, animals and humans alike.
19:27 They are not especially fond of humans as a result of severe poaching.
19:33 It's now time for today's subscriber pick.
19:35 Today's photo was sent to us by a subscriber asking why the man in the picture is being
19:39 chased by a hippopotamus and if hippos are man-eaters.
19:42 If you come across a mysterious photo online and want us to look into it, just send it
19:46 over and we may even feature it in a future video.
19:49 We found that the man in the picture is a gamekeeper in Uganda who interrupted a hungry
19:53 hippo having its favorite meal of grass.
19:56 The gamekeeper was lucky to escape with his life.
19:59 If there's something hippos don't like, it is being disturbed while having lunch.
20:03 Let's find out more about these creatures as we unveil the number one animal of this
20:07 video.
20:09 Number 1.
20:10 Hippopotamuses.
20:11 Hippopotamuses is Greek for river horse.
20:19 These animals are the third heaviest land animal and weigh over 1500 kilograms.
20:25 Despite their stocky shape and short legs, believe it or not, they are faster than Usain
20:29 Bolt.
20:30 They have wide, strong jaws capable of biting a boat in half or biting a 10-foot crocodile
20:36 in two.
20:39 Although hippos are vegetarians, they are considered the most dangerous, most aggressive
20:43 terrestrial animal in Africa.
20:46 On average, they are responsible for the deaths of almost 3,000 people every year.
20:52 Their males are very territorial and will defend their space from perceived intruders.
20:56 Mother hippos won't hold back if anything comes between them and their offspring.
21:02 That's it for today's video guys.
21:04 What intrigued you the most about these animals?
21:06 Do you think the Cape buffalos are harshly misjudged?
