I would guess it has the ability to send over a TLS encrypted connection to the remote journaling service. If nobody else gets back to you on this, I might try and open a ticket with support to see if they can provide more details.

This way, normal communications wouldn't need to be encrypted, but you would still support encrypted connections (on the same connector).
