When I try to sort the pivot table based on the dates, it sorts them as if dates are alphabetical strings, so September 9 goes into the top row, then September 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, then September 29 etc.

Jun 17, 2011 · you may cross check this by clicking on the Filter drop down of the date column - all dates will be neatly organised into Years and months . Now refesh the pivot table (Alt+F5). Right click on the first date under the data column of the pivot table and select Group > Months . Hope this helps.

When I double click (show detail) on a value in the pivot table I would like the resulting spreadsheet of detail to be sorted automatically by certain fields not present in the pivot table, only present in the detail.
