The United States Flag Code establishes advisory rules for display and care of the flag of the United States. It specifies guidelines for the appearance and display of the U.S. flag by private citizens, including times and conditions for display, manners and methods of display, and appropriate buildings for flag display. The code prohibits any use of the flag that could be construed as disrespectful, such as using it for advertising or decorating clothing and other goods.
