  1. different with / different from - WordReference Forums

Jun 30, 2011 · It may be different (with/from) each family, but there are similarities. How would you describe the difference between "different with" and "different from" in the given sentence?

  2. On a different note - WordReference Forums

Mar 7, 2009 · I think you have used it correctly in your example. The phrase indicates a change in subject, often one that has a different "tone" (e.g. from light to serious). However, I think it's a little formal or literary for use in casual conversation such as this.

  3. Cafe vs. Café - WordReference Forums

Oct 23, 2007 · At least in NA they are quite different. A cafeteria is marked by self-service. You take your tray along the line and take or are given food and drink. It would not be entirely illogical to say "a cafeteria style cafe/coffee shop" (though how that would differ from just a …

  4. boy or girl in different contexts | WordReference Forums

Sep 10, 2005 · Hi. I want to know the best way to say "boy" or "girl" in Spanish depending on the age. I know of three Spanish words that can mean "boy" or "girl." They are niño/niña, chico/chica, and muchacho/muchacha. I know that niño/niña is used for a younger boy or girl. But what would be the best way to...

  5. FR: différent - place de l'adjectif | WordReference Forums

J'ai choisi un modèle différent. I choose a different model. I'm afraid that's not always true, but more or less, (let's say 90 %) it is right.

  6. Numbers of words in different languages - WordReference Forums

Dec 1, 2004 · According to Bill Bryson's book 'Mother Tongue', English has about 200,000 words in common use, German 184,000 and French 100,000 (no mention of Spanish or Italian unfortunately, but I would suspect that they will have a similar number to French).

  7. A book of articles by different authors??? - WordReference Forums

Sep 8, 2007 · Thanks everyone. "Anthology" had skipped my mind completely (though the book I'm referring to isn't an anthology academically speaking). "Collection of articles" may have to do, though I'm still trying to avoid any ambiguity regarding authorship (different articles, each by a different author vs. different articles by the same author).

  8. Are threesome & threeway different from each other?

Aug 22, 2013 · In AE, a threesome can be any sort of activity involving three people: golf (though a foursome is more common there), whatever.

  9. y instead of i in different European languages

Sep 29, 2014 · Moderator note: Split from here. The final -y is just fancy spelling that has survived until today ... I do not want to be OT, so only an observation: in English we also find the letter y mostly at the final position of the word, e.g. by, guy, holy, day ... but holiday, daily etc ...

  10. 3 different grammar ways to talk about the future
