  1. Ammo recommendations | Colt Forum

Jan 9, 2022 · I mainly shoot handloaded .38 Special in my 2020 Python, but my favorite available factory ammo right now is the 158 gr. Norma FMJ. Norma's quality control is great, the bullet profile drops into the cylinder easily, and if you're keeping your brass Norma is fantastic stuff. Recoil is a pleasant subsonic "thump" and that's about it.

  2. PYTHON 3" Range and Ballistics Report - Colt Forum

May 17, 2022 · Lastly, on an earlier range day, I fired test strings of PMC Bronze .357 Magnum ammo in 158gr JFP. I was interested to see how PMC gets their claimed 1400fps+ out of a heavyweight bullet. Turns out, they don't. Results are below: STRING #4 Device ID LBR-0001485 PMC Bronze 158gr JFP in Colt Python 3in Series No 32 Total number of shots 12 Units ...

  3. Thoughts on Buffalo Bore ammo? | Colt Forum

Nov 19, 2020 · Like shooting Magnum ammo in a S&W "K" frame, the hotter ammo will wear the gun faster, so most people shoot .38 Special or +P ammo and shoot the full Magnum loads occasionally. The 2020 Python is stronger then the old Python, with a beefed up frame and a stronger action. Colt designed it to be shot and it will take a LOT of shooting.`

  4. Python Accuracy | Colt Forum

Jun 21, 2016 · Several of my non-colt revolvers are a little fussy about the ammo I feed them for instance, my S&W 22 mag has accuracy issues with CCI ammo, but is a tack driver with Federal or Armscor. I have been shooting LAX 357s through my 6" Python with less than stellar performance. I will try some Blazer Brass next and see if performance improves.

  5. Ammo guidance requested - New Python Range Report - Colt …

Apr 8, 2024 · Howdy- I recently acquired a brand new 2024 Blue Python 4.25". Took it out on the range and put about 75 rounds through it - MagTech 154g 38 Special, followed by a cylinder of MagTech 154g 357 Magnum. Prior to the range I cleaned the gun well so no issues with the excess oil or anything...

  6. 'Serious Work' Ammunition - Colt Forum

Jan 23, 2023 · R/E the twist rates - Colt Python is 1/14, S&W / Ruger is 1/18.5 on their .357's. The Python will shoot 125's just fine, at least miy 3 inch, and a friends 3 and 6 inch guns do. Larry

  7. .357 Magnum loads for Python? | Colt Forum

May 9, 2011 · I have a 4" 1967 Colt Python, along with a 6.5" 1937 S&W Registered Magnum, and I would like to put together a .357 Magnum load that would be safe in both. I understand that the Python is a smaller gun, and as such may not be able to …

  8. 38 +p ammo in a Python? - Colt Forum

Dec 19, 2011 · You will be just fine with +ps. I shoot .357s in mine and save the .38 specials for my .38 specials. Be aware that a steady diet of .38 specials will leave powder residue about .135" back from where the .357 will, and might impede easy loading of …

  9. .357 ammo caution? | Colt Forum

Feb 11, 2011 · So in summation. Yes you can shoot 125 grain 357's through your Python, in moderation. A coupld cylinder's of 125 grain rounds to test the ammo you plan on carrying is fine. However don't shoot 125 grain rounds through it every weekly trip to the range. What Colt75 said about the Python being a more robust gun is true.
