Jan 5, 2019 · A computer CRT would need a component to RGBHV transcoder, but it could display 480p+ as a native resolution. i.e. no lag. Biggest downside is no support for lower than 480p. Biggest upside is support for higher resolutions, and the ability to connect it to a computer.

I prefer 480i content on a CRT to 480p content on an HDTV. I find the image to be smoother, even if it’s not as well-defined. The scan lines help to mask the jaggies, almost like a form of anti-aliasing.

This was meant to reduce eye-straining flicker and improve image clarity on large size screens. In Japan, Sony called this "Digital Frame Memory TV". It includes two RGB inputs.

Jan 30, 2008 · The only CRT TVs that will do 480p are HDTVs, and AFAIK, no one ever made one that small. The smallest 4:3 CRT HDTVs that I've seen are 27", and the smallest widescreen are 26". Component would probably be preferable to s-video, but either should be fine.

Dec 12, 2024 · Since this is an HD CRT, it's recommended for game consoles that support 480p or better to get the best image quality out of the set (Anything from Dreamcast up through Wii/PS3/Xbox 360). However, you will experience a frame or two of input delay at 480p since the TV would try to properly scale and process the image to fit on a 1080i screen.
