COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina is adding a new area code. The latest set of digits will augment the Palmetto State's oldest area code - 803.

Harris says area codes are a popular choice; They ink up to 10 per month. "SC logos, or 803 under a Clemson paw," said Harris. "They love where they're from.

An area code of 839 has been assigned to the entire area of what now is 803. That area includes York, Lancaster and Chester counties and goes down to Columbia and through the mid-state.

On April 25th, ten digit dialing in the 803 area code will go into effect for all calls. Instead of dialing the seven digit number, you’ll have to add the area code.
